Is MotoGP 21 worth it after all this? If you liked the other MotoGP games it’s those, but better. Even three titles on a yearly basis would be difficult, but adding to this further development it seems to me that they are above what they can honestly do if they want to push their games to the same class as Codemasters. Annual titles such as MotoGP, Monster Energy Supercross and MXGP are often accompanied by a fourth title, with other multi-year titles in the works such as the upcoming Hot Wheels Unleashed. What I think is that Milestone is spreading itself too thin and trying to meet too many demands. I’m not a game studio head, so maybe what I’m saying is far away. These steps forward often overexpose the areas that are left behind. For every improvement in physics and visuals, there are also slow, sometimes stumbling steps forward in aspects like your character running back to the bike (a bit too slow) for realism. It’s only been four years since I said in my review of MotoGP 17 that the game was barely qualifying. The strange thing about Milestone is that they are improving. However, keep these settings high or the effect will be lost. The real features come with the DualSense and frankly I’m surprised by how good the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers are, with the controller really giving you a taste of the battle you can have when you fight a bike while the controller is fighting for to come out. I’m mentioning this because frankly, this looks great on the PS5 and runs as smoothly as you’d like. I’ve complained there’s no reason to turn on that colossal plastic paperweight. Nothing inappropriate, just that I played MotoGP 21 on the PlayStation 5. It’s decent enough.Īt this point I think I have to say that I feel a bit of a racing traitor.

So while the career mode is decent enough, that’s the best thing to say about it. While the campaign is extensive and it’s great to see and feel that progression from Moto3 all the way to MotoGP, it doesn’t feel as rewarding or engaging if what’s going on behind the scenes is a bit of a sign.

When you compare them to much better series such as Codemasters’ F1 games, it is night and day. To be specific, it’s your team’s progression that feels superficial.Įven compared to other Milestone titles, the R&D goals for taking your bikes and team to the next level are superficial. The problem is, the progression feels a bit shallow. You can start as part of a Moto3, Moto2 or MotoGP team, or you can create your own team and fight your way to the top. This is where the series still lags behind other racing competitors. What about the game outside of the tutorial? The one thing I couldn’t talk about when I saw a preview of MotoGP 21 was the campaign.

Just don’t bring in those ridiculous checkpoint tracks from RIDE 4. Relaxing a bit from a more detailed and explanatory tutorial would be great. Those of us who are new to the style of the game, or just a little bit of nonsense, can find every entrance and the small changes like a whole new mountain to climb. If you’re already familiar with these types of games and you’ve mastered the picky bugger, then using your different brakes and using your bike will already be familiar. Speaking of school, MotoGP 21 and the series can give players a little bit of education. That’s the same for any vehicle simulation – I like a more simcade approach. I understand how it all works, but it’s just hard for me to manage it on the digital medium. I have the problem that although I can ride a motorcycle in real life, I am not very good at video games. I want a goddamn angle around without falling off or slowing down to the pace of a lazy sloth. Okay, it has other issues, but it always seems that once you make the games of this series more accessible by lowering the settings, the game itself seems to spit out its dummy and say, ‘Oh, you want it easy Well, here you go, you are now glued to the track, and the AI has made brains out of it mashed gerbils. The main issues with MotoGP 21 and the others before it are accessibility and balance. This doesn’t mean that Milestone hasn’t improved MotoGP 21 they just haven’t pushed it to a level that could really take it to that next level.
